Sessions

How long each game wants from you.

Before you learn a game's systems, it helps to know whether it expects ten minutes a day or a whole evening.

Check-in games

Melvor Idle keeps levelling the skill you picked while the tab is in the background or closed, so a visit can be as short as collecting what happened and choosing the next task.

Fallen London gives back one action every ten minutes. Spending them in a few short visits through the day loses nothing.

Shakes & Fidget sends your hero on tavern quests that run on a timer. Thirst for adventure limits how many you take, and it comes back with beer or the daily reset.

A daily budget

Kingdom of Loathing hands you 40 adventures a day, plus more from food and drink. Unused adventures carry over at the daily rollover, up to 200, so missing a day is not a disaster.

Evening games

Hordes.io and Flyff Universe are real-time MMORPGs where most of the fun is in groups, so they suit an evening with friends online.

Granblue Fantasy mixes short story chapters with raids for up to 30 players.

The long game

A Travian Legends world is a round that lasts months: on normal worlds the endgame starts after about 200 days. An alliance counts on its members to log in regularly, so it is worth being honest with yourself before you join one.

Margonem rewards steady play through guilds, colour-coded PvP zones and its Abyss tournament.

Pick by the time you have

Ten minutes: Melvor Idle, Fallen London, Shakes & Fidget. Half an hour: Kingdom of Loathing, Travian Legends. An evening: Hordes.io, Flyff Universe, Granblue Fantasy, Margonem.
